Historical Facts About Waltz
July 4th, 2009
Characterized by elegance, fluid and floating movements, waltz is the oldest of all the partnered dances. Today, it’s spread throughout the world and very commonly danced at weddings. In this article we’ll take a look at some historical facts about waltz.
Waltz is a turning dance. That’s where its name came from. The word waltz, which comes from the old German word “walzen”, means to turn, to revolve.
Before making its way into the Hapsburg courts, waltz was a folk dance of Austria and Bavaria. In the 17th century it became very popular among young aristocracy. It was something new and exciting. But because it was a couple dance that allowed close contact, it was quickly deemed immoral and banned in some areas.
This, of course, didn’t stop it. We all know that forbidden fruits are the sweetest. By the end of the 18th century, waltz conquered all of Europe and soon after, the rest of the world. Mozart was a huge fan of it.
Beautiful waltz music composed by Johann Strauss and Franz Lanner gave waltz in the middle of the 19th century an enormous support. Who doesn’t know The Blue Danube by Johann Strauss Jr.
In the 19th century, when waltz was introduced to the United States, a different style emerged. Boston Waltz, also known as American Waltz, was a slower version of the traditional Viennese Waltz. Later on, the slow waltz, as we know it today, evolved from the Boston waltz. Viennese waltz is three times faster than the slow or English waltz.
Today, waltz is one of the most popular partner dances in the world. It’s romantic, elegant and very easy to learn. It clearly stood the test of time.

Dog Names
July 3rd, 2009
Dog owners will tell you that there is no given formula for picking a good name for a new dog or puppy. Whether they need to think of girl or boy dog names, usually they will pick something that sounds trendy or a name they like rather than putting some thought into what the name really means. Popular boy dog names have a variety of meanings, but more often than not the meaning will not suit the dog it is given to. Here we give a list of the top five boy dog names and what they really mean.
In general, one of the first things you have to do when you get a new dog or puppy is choose a dog name for him or her. For most dog owners, this actually requires little thought. They just choose a dog name at random and that is the name by which the unfortunate hound will be known forever. However, there is something you ought to think about when going through dog names in order to make sure that you choose the right one.
First of all, dogs sense attitude and tone of voice better than we are able to. If you choose a dog name for comic value or after someone you don’t like, your dog will know by your tone of voice that something is not right. The result could well be that, their attitude may change towards you or they may refuse to respond to your commands. Dogs’ names should mean something but should not be detrimental to their mental development, so you ought to take your dog’s name seriously.
While dogs are very intelligent animals, they can’t understand the same amount of data that we can. Therefore, dog names should not be more than two syllables long. If they are more than that, most dogs will not respond. Max, Sam, Becky, Lady, Molly and the like are excellent dog names because they are short and the names are easily heard. They understand these dog names and that will help your chances of training them successfully.
However, dogs’ names should help them form an identity of their own. Popular names don’t really allow them to do that, so finding something simple but unusual can help their characters grow a lot without damaging their ability to respond to a command.
Max: This is perhaps the greatest boy dog name and the meaning is surely why most people choose it for their pooch. It literally means “the greatest”. After all, every dog owner thinks that their dog is the greatest.
Jake: Jake is short for Jacob, which means “champion”. This is a suitable boy dog name, if your puppy takes over the whole house within a short time of getting inside it!
Buddy: Buddy is a variation of Budd, which means “messenger”. This boy dog name could suit a farm dog or one you might train to bring in the newspaper of a morning. It is quite a popular boy dog name and can be very widely heard throughout America.
Bailey: The boy dog name Bailey is French and means “steward”. This is fairly suitable if your dog is responsible and sensible, so it is probably suitable for a Labrador or collie puppy, for example!
Sam: Sam seems to mean “an answer to prayers”. This is a good boy dog name for sedate dogs that are easy to train and are very little work!
Few new dog owners consider a name’s meaning when picking a boy dog’s name, so instead of just going ahead with your first idea, it would be worth taking the time to choose a dog’s name that is really suitable for your dog. After all, it doesn’t cost you anything to spend some time considering your dog’s name.

For Woodworkers - Cleaning a Paintbrush The Right Way
July 3rd, 2009
If you are an avid wood worker or do it yourselfer don?t you just hate it when the neighbor comes over to borrow one of your precious paintbrushes? Then a day or two later he lets you know that he returned your brush back to the workshop. You go to use it a week or two later and it’s hard as a rock. Simple answer it wasn’t cleaned properly.
No doubt if you are into doing a lot of various painting, you have a good selection of brushes and probably some more expensive ones as well. The first thing you need to learn is to clean and maintain your paintbrushes properly.
Even if you clean your brushes but do an improper job then the paint job you do with them is going to be inferior as well. All too often, a novice painter will blame a poor paint job on the paint when the real culprit is a poorly cared for paintbrush. If you don?t get yourself into the habit of cleaning your brushes properly then you might as well throw your money away because you are going to have to toss the brushes.
The next question is when do you clean your brushes. Ideally as soon as you have stopped using then for the day, not two days later when the paint job is done. If you are only going to be stopping for an hour or two then you can wrap your brush carefully in some plastic wrap. If you are going to be gone for several hours then soak the brush in the proper cleaning solvent applicable for the type of paint you are using. Filling a glass jar, just enough to cover the brushes will do the job.
Most people prefer to use water based paints and products because of the ease in which they clean up. If you are using a water-based product then you will be able to use soap and water for cleaning your brushes as well. Preferably using an old laundry tub for your cleaning just let some warm water run through the brush to remove the initial excess paint. Then put some liquid soap on the brush and gently work it in. You can use shampoo for this if you want because it conditions the bristles as well Don?t squish or twist the bristles. Then rinse well. Repeat this as often as necessary until the brush is totally clean and the rinse water runs clear of the color you were using.
If you are using an oil-based product then you are going to have to use a solvent to clean the brush. Ideally, if you have an old piece of board use this to brush the excess paint out to it. Then soak the brush in a glass container that contains the solvent. Wearing gloves work the solvent well into the bristle. Use an old comb to separate the bristles so the solvent can get into the inner bristles. Repeat the step using a second jar of solvent and twirl the brush around in the solvent until it looks clean. Then take an empty small bucket and twirl your brush around in it to remove the excess solvent. Now wash the brush as you did for the water-based brushes.

Caravan Accessories Play a Crucial Role
July 3rd, 2009
The great trade routes that we study in history books are the result of the desire of the Man to trade on long and short distances. The aim of these trips is to get what he does not have or to sell what he already has. Arabia, parts of North Africa and West Africa and Middle East were having trade routes in earlier days though these routes have existed wherever a civilization existed. Even these days, we can see nomads of North and West Africa going on expeditions. These nomads are generally tribes in those regions. They go on expeditions along with camels, horses and donkeys. When these animals were laid with goods to be traded by the traders and commuted, it is called as a caravan.
Caravan, in the modern terminology refers to the recreational vehicles, also called as RVs, mobile homes, caravan homes, etc. The meaning of a Caravan has also been changed in the modern times as it would refer to people moving from place to place for recreational enjoyment and for other relocation.
When there are hurricanes such as that hit the Southern and central parts of United States, these caravans or mobile homes are in more number. In recent times, Federal Management Association, a governmental agency to looks into disaster management and relief, has been issuing trailer or mobile homes to the people affected by these natural floods. The people who received these mobile homes can either park the RVs in their usual place or in any other place which is approved by the government. Caravans are very important due to the following reasons.
Safety concerns
People get attracted by these caravans because they are safer especially when one is traveling long distances from place to place. For the recreation purposes, Caravans are being used for camping and other expeditions. What do most people do while on expeditions is to place everything they require during the camping into the Recreation Vehicle. This is considered as a popular way. After placing the things required, they must ensure that everything is placed in order or not. This is because, when once the trip starts, it would be troublesome if we cannot find the articles we need. These articles are called as accessories of caravan. They include shoes (water resistant), tents, ropes, lights which are having a flash, scissors, etc. As they are on the expedition into the forests, they should have everything they need because there will not be any stores in the forest to buy. That is why, caravan accessories are very important during these kinds of expeditions.
Important for protection
Another important use of caravan accessories is the protection they give. The people normally go into the forests for expeditions. So, they must be careful enough to have everything they require such as medical facilities, etc.
